News from the Art Room

By Mrs. Benson

With winter behind us, the art classes are greening up with projects that emphasize recycling. Fifth graders from Term 3 designed crazy cars by recycling magazines. Thank you everyone who contributed those glossies! We had fun looking for different colors and textures that would fit a theme like 'Go Green' or 'Flower Power.' One crazy car was made from pictures of ice and snow, in another class, someone chose fire. There is a display of great examples in the Cafeteria. This term, fifth grade art classes are recycling construction paper to make torn (or cut) paper collages. The theme is: "My strongest memory with Mom" and the variety of scenarios is sure to entertain.

Fourth grade art work from Term 3 is also on display at Cottage Lane and SOMS. It's hard to miss the gorgeous O'Keefe poppy paintings and examples from their Circus collages are in the Cafeteria. Classes that have art now are traveling down under to Australia as we explore Aboriginal techniques for printing dream-time animals. Our tools include recycled paper towel tubes, cardboard stampers and sticks from the great outdoors.

Stay tuned for more art works from your great little artists!
