Springtime News

Recently our students visited and participated in the Mu Fest at the high school. The high school math honor students organized and created challenging and diverse games for others to play on this special day. The purpose of our trip was to model and prepare our classes with ideas for their State Fair games, which is our end of the year fifth-grade project on June 12th. The students will be working in class and at home to design their own games, which may incorporate math, science, social studies, and ELA. They will host and challenge other students in the fifth grade.

As a culminating activity of our Models and Design Unit, our “inventors” created inventions, which were demonstrated and displayed at our Invention Convention that was held on February 26th. Parents always enjoy seeing the unique ideas the children come up with. The children will also use these creative skills as they prepare for the State Fair games.

On the evening of April 23rd, our classes along with their families will be having a Pot Luck Dinner. Families will bring in their special dishes to share with others. The purpose of this special gathering is to view the children’s individual family albums. These albums are the finale of a four month project, which included letter and memoir writing, lists, interviews, drawings, and copies of special family documents. Although done as a social studies/ELA project, the skills learned will be used throughout all grades, and the memories of this experience will last forever.

We are very proud of the children on our team, who are working hard to prepare for middle school. As the end of the year quickly approaches, we look forward to the many exciting activities and trips that are scheduled.
