4th Graders Measure Up to Science Tasks

The Cottage Lane fourth graders spent a very busy winter season continuing their explorations in Science. They weighed, measured, and determined capacity of many common items found in school and at home using standard and metric units. As learners, they gathered, graphed, charted, and interpreted the information they discovered.
After measuring up to these tasks, they turned their attention to Ecosystems: Producers/Consumers/Decomposers. The unit began with the planting of the Wisconsin Fast Plants and continued with the dissection of the lima bean seeds. The students were transformed into avid gardeners and scientists when they designed experiments including the Wisconsin Fast Plants. Observing the life cycle of the Brassica plant enhanced the students’ core of knowledge about producers, their needs, their challenges, and their importance.
The fourth graders can look forward to continuing to learn about the world around them, as well as preparing for the coming challenge of the fourth grade New York State Science Assessment in early May.
