Can you believe we are already on the second half of fourth grade? We have continued to stay busy since the ELA assessment in early January. Theodor Seuss Geisel commemorative postage stamp

Oh the places we went…. With Dr. Seuss!!” Our team celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday, with interdisciplinary activities that allowed the children to apply different strategies and skills that they have been practicing all year. From graphing and measuring, to guided-reading groups and a web quest, we had a blast! One of the children’s favorite activities was making Oobleck. Don’t forget to ask your child who Bartholomew is.

In math, we have been working on our Long Division. We have all decided that we should rename Long Division as “Long Steps,” because there are so many steps that we have to follow to be successful! We are moving along into our fraction and geometry unit and continue to practice different strategies that make us successful. We will continue to practice using all four operations as we problem solve and learn more strategies to help us become even better mathematicians!

In ELA we are coming to the end of our Non Fiction Unit. We will be integrating our study of animals and the Hudson River ecosystem from Science into the writing portion of the Non Fiction study. Our end of the unit project will allow us to create a news article demonstrating all that we have learned. We will spring into Poetry in the month of April.

Social Studies classes have found us wrapping up our Colonial unit of study and we will be on the road to the American Revolution in the near future.

The Liberty Science Center field trip allowed us to explore some of the science topics we have learned in class. The students truly enjoyed all the hands-on demonstrations provided by the exciting staff of the center.

For the next couple of months we will continue to become the critical readers and writers that we have grown into, as we look forward to Spring!
