Cottage Lane Donates
By Mrs. Acito
This year our Student
Advisory Committee (SAC) began the year by holding class elections to determine
a representative and a class alternate. It was exciting to run for SAC as our
country
was
involved in a riveting presidential election. Our students declared their desire
to be part of SAC, made speeches to their classmates, and posted hand made
posters in the hallway. At our initial meeting on October 3rd we
decided to participate in the Pajama Program.
The
Pajama Program is a non profit
organization that provides new, warm pajamas and books to children in the United
States and around the world, many who are waiting and hoping to be adopted.
When we found out there was a Rockland Chapter we were hooked. We began
collecting new
pajamas
in November with our pick up date, Friday, December 5th. At first,
we declared December 5th PAJAMA DAY at Cottage Lane and anyone who
donated could wear their PJ’s to school. When we recognized the generosity of
the entire Cottage Lane community including staff and our neighbors at
Greenbush, we invited everyone to wear their favorite pajamas to school. Our
greatest gift was the donation we made of hundreds of pajamas to this valuable
organization.
Our upcoming projects will represent our interest in preserving our school and the surrounding area. We are hoping to formalize a SAC initiative that will help us to push recycling efforts and “going green.” We are even collecting Book of the Month titles for next year that will emphasize our commitment. Stay tuned. . .
