The Eastern Woodland Natives

Mrs. Coatti and Ms. Christie-Blick’s Social Studies Classes

By Zoe Konstantinidis

In Mrs.Coatti’s social studies class we have been learning about the Eastern Woodland Natives. Two of the tribes are the Iroquois and Algonquians. They lived in New York. We are learning about the tribes from New York because in 4th grade we learn all about the state of New York. So far, we’ve learned about wampum (beads made from shell), how the Native Americans hunted, and how they got here. A question that is asked a lot is, how did they get here?  Well, during the Ice Age a land bridge was revealed because there was no run off and the sea levels got lower revealing the land bridge. Then when the animals crossed it, the people living in Asia followed the animals for food and they found North America! When the Ice Age was over the land bridge was covered again with water because all of the ice melted. Well, there is your answer! So far social studies class is a great adventure!
