Technology Bits and Bytes

By Mr. Tanenbaum

4th and 5th graders began the year using the internet to collaborate with Mr. Tanenbaum and scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration aboard the research ship Henry Bigelow in the Gulf of Maine.  Students could view the events of the day as well as ask and answer questions using the project blog.  Click here to take a look at the now-complete project.

Our work will continue as we follow the progress of a drifter buoy deployed during the trip.   Will it get swept into the Gulf Stream and head toward Europe or will it come crashing into land somewhere in the North East US.  Only time will tell.  Click here to follow along with the project.

You can follow along with most of the class lessons by visiting the Cottage Lane Technology website here.  If you wish, click at the bottom of the screen to access a list of free and open-source software for your home computer.
