5th Grade Here We Come!

By Mrs. Caunitz class

Mrs. Caunitz’s class has made new friends, mastered routines, and learned so many new skills this year.  We are both excited and nervous about 5th grade.

We have watched ourselves grow as readers and writers.  As a class we read The Library Card and Crash by Jerry Spinelli.  We have been so thrilled to see our published writing pieces, in particular theme responses and our non fiction informational articles.  Do you know we even wrote realistic fiction stories?  We learned how to write using dialogue and crafting scenes.

Did you see us in the Our Town, Rockland Journal News or the Rockland Express?

On Tuesday, May 12th, our class was presented with certificates of appreciation by Sgt. Major Mendez of the United States Army along with his wife Joy. Justis is a student in our homeroom class.

A United States flag along with a certificate of appreciation was also presented to Cottage Lane which was accepted graciously by Mr. Fiorentino.

Last November we prepared care packages, cards, and drawings which were shipped to Sgt. Major Mendez who was deployed in Afghanistan at the time.

Sgt. Major Menendez and his troop gave us a greater appreciation of those serving in our Armed Forces. We thank Sgt Major Menendez for taking the time to speak to the students about his military experiences.

As mathematicians along with Ms. Erickson, Dr. Aaron and Ms. Vega Cabrera’s class, we have been working hard to master our math facts in all operations.

We completed our division unit.  We can’t believe we know how to do long division.  Our 5th grade teachers are going to be so proud of us.  Our fraction unit is coming to an end.  We finally placed all the pieces together.

We wish you all a fun filled and exciting summer.  We will see you in September.
