Broadway in Blauvelt

Summer Ball

            On June 15, 2009, Broadway came to Blauvelt! Mr. McAuliffe’s and Mrs. Young’s 5^th grade class performed Summer Ball the play! Each student was a cast member from the novel written by Mike Lupica. The students were broken up into literature circles and choose the chapter they wished to perform. The chapters that were transformed were chapters 5 (The Big House), 13-14 (Contessa44Hewitt), 25 (At the Camp) and 26 (The Big game).  Next they developed a screenplay from the chapter. Each child had a speaking role. As a class we discussed the setting, costumes and backdrop for the play. Throughout the month of May and early June we practiced our roles in class and at home in preparation for the big day! We brought down the house!

            Special thanks goes out to our parents and friends who attended, Mrs. Benson for help design the backdrop, Mrs. Egan for designing the billboard and Mrs. Acito for being one of our narrators! Thanks as well to Mrs. Tan, Mrs. Lane and Mr. Krump along with their classes for attending our dress rehearsals. Final thanks to Mr. Fiorentino for attending the play.
