Summer Reading Recommendations Compiled by Mrs. Lane’s Class

 

All of the books except one received a five- star rating; the one exception received a four-star rating.

Cole:  Artemis Fowl Series by Eoin Colfer – This series is exciting for anyone who likes mysteries or cliffhangers.

Samiyah: Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter. I recommend this book because there’s a cliff hanger that keeps you wondering at the end of each chapter.

Lian: The Five Children and It by E. Nesbit. This is a wonderful book with kids just like you – and it even has magic!

Chelsea: Al Capone Does My Shirts by Genifer Choldenko. It is exciting and funny!

Nick: Summer Ball by Mike Lupica. I recommend this book because it shows that no matter your size, you can make a difference.

James: The Red Badge of Courage. This book has non-stop action and you don’t know what’s going to happen next.

Dino: War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. This is a good book for anyone who wants to read a thriller.

 

Joe H. : Travel Team by Mike Lupica. A message from the author is: No matter how small you are, it doesn’t mean you can’t do great things.

Abigail: Matilda by Roald Dahl. I recommend this book because it is very entertaining. It is about a girl named Matilda and her parents hate her and . . . . You will have to read on to see what happens!

Louis: Sasquatch by Roland Smith. Read this book if you like adventure and action.

Brook: Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Wilder. This is an exciting and enjoyable book.

Courtney:  Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter. It is an exciting, drama-filled mystery that won’t let me put it down!

Sara: My Life in Pink & Green by Lisa Greenwald. If you’re a girl, you’ll love this book. It is about a family who owns a pharmacy that is failing. Can they save it? Will boys get in the way? Will a friendship get in the way?

Kristen:  Trouble With a Capital O by Miss O and Devra Newberger Speregen.  This is a book that everyone can relate to. It is also a great book because it makes you think of what Miss O will do next.

 

Laura: Weasel by Cynthia DeFelice. This novel involved history and cliffhangers which made it even more amazing.

Kyle: The City of Ember series by Jeanne DuPrau. The novels are exciting and full of suspense. The clues are surprising!

Emily: The Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. This book is not only a love story, it has adventure, mystery, and excitement.

Audrey: The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke . It has great details an even better plot.

Dan: Left Behind series, Book One. There is a lot of action and mystery.

Judy: Weasel by Cynthia DeFelice. Once you pick up this book, you can’t put it down. It uses great vocabulary and unbelievable surprises that keep you wondering .

Joe S.: A Series of Unfortunate Events Book One, The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. If you like bone-chilling mysteries, weird fires and mean counts, this book is for you.

Justin: Sounder by William H. Armstrong. I recommend this book because you have to think about what will happen next and the theme is loyalty.

Alice: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. This novel is a wonderful adventure of a young boy with great imagination.

Lucy: Wet Magic by E. Nesbit. If you like to read about and explore adventures, this is a good book to read.
