Raul Colon Comes to Cottage Lane

Raul Colon came to the Cottage Lane library to speak to the students in 4^th grade on Friday, June 12.  Do you know Raul Colon illustrated our June book of the month, How to Bake an American Pie? 

Raul spoke to the children about his childhood.  Raul had chronic asthma when he was a child.  He told the children there were times that he couldn’t leave his house for days and sometimes even weeks because of his condition.  But, he didn’t let that stop him.  He filled up composition notebooks and even tried to make his own comic books.  WOW, an important lesson from Raul, DO NOT EVER GIVE UP!

        Raul shared illustrations from his portfolio with the children and talked about some of his work.  He explained his job and how it sometimes takes years to complete some of his work.  The children were excited to hear about all of Raul’s accomplishments as an illustrator.  The time ended with a question period.  Raul Colon autographed the book of the month for the students and teachers.  Thank you Raul for coming to Cottage Lane!
