Number the Stars

By: Lois Lowery

For our I-Search project we read the book Number the Stars, by Lois Lowery. After reading the book, we had to connect it to five subjects. They are English, Art, Social Studies, Science and Math.

For Arts we created a new cover for the book. For Social Studies, we did a timeline of Denmark. For Science we did a graph on rainfall in Denmark. For math we did two graphs that showed the climate. We did the same information, but we used a different set-up.

Our favorite part of the book was at the end. It was when the German soldiers dogs sniffed the handkerchief that was coated with rabbits blood and cocaine. The cocaine made the dogs not be able to smell for awhile. Because of this the dogs didn’t find the Jewish people that were hidden in the boats. It was a very exciting part of the book.

We liked this book and would love to read it again. It was an interesting book full of action and excitement. This was also an interesting project. It made us learn a lot about Denmark, and how the Jewish people were treated in World War Two. They were treated more and more horrible as I read. If we were there we would have made things right and stood up for the Jewish people. They deserved someone good to help them. We would have been a part of the resistance.

In conclusion, we read Number the Stars and completed an I-Search project on it. We had a good time and hope we get a chance like this again to learn more about the past.
