For my I-Search project I chose to read the novel Night, by Eli Wiesel. This story is about a young Jewish boy, born in Sighet, Transylvania. He was forced from his home, with his family and was made to walk with everyone in the ghetto until his family was broken up. His mother and sisters were separated from him and his father. He never saw his mother and sisters again.

The boy and his father were sent to then Auschwitz concentration camp, by train where all of their valuables were left. They were sent to work at the crematory, where babies, children and adults were dumped into a fiery pit to die. They only had one piece of bread a day.

Both of them were also put though selections to see if they were capable of labor at the concentration camps. If you did not pass the selection, you were killed by crematories, gas chambers and other cruel methods. People did not pass if they were sick physically and/or mentally. Also, most women, children, and old people were put to death because they were incapable of working. Both the boy and his father had passed all of the selections to work at the camps.

They had also gone to two other camps, Buna and Buchenwald. Both of these camps were located in Auschwitz. Both of these camps were located in Auschwitz. Buchenwald was an extermination camp where many people were killed. Over 1,000,000 people were killed at Auschwitz. On January 28, 1945 being beaten to death killed the boy’s father. The young boy was liberated from Auschwitz on April 11, 1945. Three days later he was hospitalized for two weeks with food poisoning.

In conclusion, this book was extremely sad.
