My Favorite Title & Author WebQuest

Introduction

Do you sometimes have a hard time finding a good book to read? Wouldn’t it help if you had a notebook full of  recommendations by other kids who had read terrific books?

Task

You will create a recommendation notebook page to help kids looking for a good book. You will provide the title, genre, and author of the book, a picture of the cover of the book, a brief description of what the book was about and why you liked it, a picture of the author of the book and some information about the author.

Process

Prepare a notebook page about your book by following the steps below.

Step 1:    Pick your favorite chapter fiction book.

·       Find a picture of the cover of this book.

·       Determine the genre of your book.

·       Write a short description of the book.

·       Write a recommendation for the book.

Step 2:    Research the author of your favorite book.

·       Find a picture of the author.

·       Write a short summary of the author’s life. Here are some ideas you might investigate.

o      When did this author live? Is the author still alive?

o      Where did/does the author live?

o      What do you learn about the author’s family?

o      Did the author have any other jobs before becoming or in addition to being an author?

o      Did the author have any special adventures or challenges?

o      Did anything happen in the author’s life that may have caused him/her to write this book or influenced the story he/she told?

o      How many books has this author written?

o      Does this author write books for adults? Young adults? Children?

o      Does this author specialize in a specific genre? If so, what is it?

·       Find a list of other books this author has written and add this list to your notebook page. Author lists can usually be found on online bookstores or on author websites.

Step 3:    Prepare a 3-hole punched notebook page that tells about your favorite book and the author who wrote it. Make sure you leave at least a 1” margin on the left, then 3-hole punch the page. See Formatting and Picture Resources for a format you might follow and other help.

Include the title of the book, author of the book, genre of the book, picture of the book cover, picture of the author, book description, book recommendation, author biography, and author's title list.
