Review:

Eragon by Christopher Paolini is a book filled with adventure and fantasy.  It is about a boy who finds out that it is his responsibility to raise a dragon.

It all begins when a poor farm boy named Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest.  At first he thinks he got lucky, but soon he finds out that he did not find a stone but a dragon egg destined to be given to him even before the empire was created.  Eragon must take the job of becoming one of the legendary dragon riders.  He enters a world of destiny, magic, and power.

During the night Eragon’s uncle, Garrow was killed by two creatures called ra’zacs.  Eragon set out to avenge the death his uncle, with only the help of an old storyteller.  Soon he finds out that he must not only avenge his uncle, but travel through the dangerous landscape where dark enemies lurk about, and try to stop the evil king from his destruction.  He has the help of the mighty dragon Saphira by his side, and an ancient sword.

The reason I liked this book so much was the fact that it took place in a mystical land filled with magic, fascinating creatures, sword fighting, archery, and tons of adventure.  I usually enjoy books with that kind of fantasy setting.  The book was very detailed making me feel as if I was actually in the story.  The book was also very exciting and suspenseful making me want to read more and more of it.  It was disappointing when the book finally ended, because I would have to wait a long time for the sequel to come out.

I would recommend this book to almost anybody who enjoys adventure, and/or fantasy books.  Especially if you had read the Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien, and enjoyed it.

In all, I thought Eragon was a fantastic book and am very eager to read the sequel.

Review:

Christopher Paolini has a fantastic way to weave a story with a simple basic storyline and intruding details out of threads of thoughts. Eragon is a well-paced novel that pulls you within the pages, pitting you against one adventure after another. After each adventure, you can't wait to start the next. When you are reading this book, it feels like you can't tear your eyes away from the words. You eyes just glide past lines, pages and chapters absorbing all of it right away. Once you pick up the book, you can't put it down until you finish it.

Eragon is a boy who is living in poverty. He lives with his brother and his uncle. His house is a distance from the other villagers making it hard to summon help. One day when Eragon went exploring, he discovered a beautiful blue stone. Hoping it will bring some money and food to his family, he kept it. But unexpectedly the stone hatched revealing a dragon. Once Eragon’s brother becomes an apprentice and moves away with his new master, Eragon realizes that his family is in danger. Before Eragon can act, his uncle is killed and Eragon’s life is thrown into utter chaos. Then he is found by Brom, a storyteller who is soon to be uncovered as an old Dragonrider. Dragonriders are powerful magicians and fighters, each with their own dragon. Their dragons are their highest source of power. Dragonriders were made for protection and justice. But a long time ago, a Dragonrider was corrupted. The corrupted Dragonrider slowly took over by slaying one fellow Dragonrider after another. He gathered a group of followers and

soon became completely in control. Eragon learned from Brom about the ways of the Dragonriders and began training his magic and swordplay skills. Eragon soon becomes very powerful but when Brom dies, Eragon’s sorrows become almost unbearable. Then he finds Murtagh, the son of the corrupted Dragonrider! Fortunately, Murtagh is bad but only wants to help Eragon. Will Eragon find the Varden (a large group of people who are working to bring down the corrupted Dragonrider from power) with the help of Murtagh and complete his training. Read the book to find out!
