Julie of the Wolves is about a thirteen-year-old girl named Miyax. She is a young Eskimo girl who runs away from home to live with her pen pal, Amy who lives in San Francisco. Amy calls her Julie. Julie runs away because of her husband, Daniel. Now she is lost without food, shelter or even a compass in the North Slope in Alaska. Whatever direction she looked in, it looked the same. Once she made a shelter she tried to become a part of the wolf pack that lived near her. She tries to become a part of the wolf pack so when they went hunting she would be able to get some of the meat. She slowly became a part of the wolf pack and she slowly gained the meat that they hunted. A guy she believes is her father from the airplane killed the leader of the pack. The wolf was killed for no reason at all. The pack starts to move on from their shelter to a new one, including Julie. Julie finds a bird, named Tornait and leaves the pack. She starts to head for her dad and his wife who lives in the village of Kangik. She pitc
hes a tent outside of the village. The next day she sees a woman come out of her father’s house and thinks to her self that “he is married, he has to have someone to cook and sew for him”. She knocks on the door after his wife leaves. He lets her come in and she shows him her bird and he asks who she is and she tells him and they hug. His wife, Ellen comes in and she introduces herself. Julie tells them that the gussaks have arranged transportation for her to go to San Francisco tomorrow. She pitches a tent and her bird,Tornait dies. She buries him later.
