This story is about mice and beavers who fight for land in The Brook. All of the other animals move away, except for the mice. Now it is up to the mice to see if they can defeat the beavers. In a finial attempt to drive the beavers away, the mice fight back desperately to gain back the land.
Clover and Valerian were the parents of the golden mice. Their most bravest son was Ragweed, who was killed when trying to marry Poppy. Rye was the second oldest, so he was like a replacement for Ragweed. Thistle and Curlydock were two of the other children.
The father and leader of the beavers was Mr. Canad. He was a talkative person who often changed the words to what famous people said. He had a daughter named Clara, who later proved to be useful
when she almost drowned three mice.
Rye was held captive for a long time. He broke out of the cage when the war was over. Rye went into the beavers' dam because he wanted to get rid of them all, but he was foolish. Then Rye married Poppy when the war was over.
Poppy was a deer mouse from the woods. She had a porcupine for a friend named Ereth. She decided to tell Ragweed's parents about how Ragweed died, so they would know the truth, not worring about if Ragweed would be back.
In this story, the fight for land becomes one-sided when the humongous beavers fight the tiny mice. I think people who pity tiny creatures would like this story.
