Review:

"Redwall" by Brian Jacques is a novel worth reading. The main theme

of this book was "unimportant people can do great things." I liked

several things about this book. One thing I particularly liked about

this book was the way the author told the story. the plot was full of

cliff-hangers, adventure, and suspense. Also, the story was hard to stop

reading once you began.

The story begins with Matthias, a young mouse living in Redwall Abbey.

Matthias is a novice who one day hopes to become a warrior. The mice in

the abbey, however, are animals of peace. However, trouble soon arrives in

the form of Cluny the Scourge(so called because of his long whip-like

tail). Cluny, the evil, villainous rat whose name is used to terrify

naughty toddlers. At this point, we begin to see the heroic side of

Matthias, who immediately takes charge of the situation and begins preparing

to defend the abbey. Then Cluny steals the Tapestry of Martin the Warrior.

It is at this point we meet Basil Stag Hare, an eccentric, ever-optimistic

fighter who helps matthias in an attempt to recover the tapestry. They do

not get the tapestry, but manage to rescue Abram Vole and his family, who

were captured by Cluny earlier in the story. While this is happening,

Cluny was mounting a raid on Redwall Abbey. Cluny's second-in-command,

Redtooth, provided a diversion while Cluny and others attempted to mount

the walls from an elm tree. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, and a

number of vermin in Cluny's horde ,including Cluny himself, were critically

injured.

Meanwhile, old Methuselah, the oldest and wisest mouse in Redwall, has

discovered a poetic riddle inscribed into the stone where the tapestry of

Martin used to be. The riddle leads to a secret staircase to the tomb of

Martin, from which another leads to the abbey weather vane, the original

hiding place of the sword of Martin. It then is discovered that the sword

was stolen by King Bull Sparra, the mad ruler of the Sparra clan. Matthias

ventures to the dwelling of the Sparra clan, only to find the sword was

taken by the evil adder Asmodeus. Matthias then goes to retieve the sword.

Along the way, he meets the Guosim shrews, Squire Julian Gingivere, and

Captain Snow the owl. To find out how Matthias defeats Asmodeus and, with

the sword of Martin the warrior and his friends Guosim leader Log a Log

and newly crowned Sparra Queen Warbeak save Redwall Abbey, Read the book.
