Review:

The Fires of Merlin is about fires that Merlin has to fight in order to become a wizard. He also learns that Wings of Fire, of Valdearg, has awaken from his long sleep.

The book starts with a man finding the eggs of the dragon, and the man killing them. The next chapter is about Merlin making the psaltery and trying to play it, when suddenly, Urnalda, a dwarf, appears and announces to Merlin that it is time to go to her because of the promise that he made and because Valdearg has awoken from his long sleep. After that, Cairpre recites a poem that tells the story of how the descendant of the enemy that the dragon fought long before would fight with the enemy and both of them will die. They think that Merlin will die because his grandfather fought Valdearg a long time ago.

After that, a kreelix, an animal that takes away the powers that a wizard might have, attacks Merlin, but dies not long after. It has been a very long time when the last kreelix died and the first kreelix was seen. Merlin leaves to go to Urnalda the next day.

When Merlin arrives at Urnalda' home, she first treats him kindly, but takes his power away. Merlin believes that he had his powers taken away by Negatus Mysterium because that is what Urnalda told him. After that, he is rescued by a stag and a doe, and the stag gives some of his power to Merlin.

After that, he goes on an adventure which takes him to a lot of places. The poem that Cairpre recited before said of a power still higher, and Merlin thinks that it is the Galator, but the battle to the last is a little different than what Merlin thought.

This is the third book of The Lost Years of Merlin, and it continues the powers Merlin looks for to become a wizard.
