Choose one of the following:
- Thesis: Although childhood in colonial times was not
completely carefree, children did enjoy some games. Write a 2 page
paper about this topic. Make a toy, game or other object which was used by
children in colonial times.
- Thesis: Colonists adapted to their environment by
using available resources. Write a 2 page paper about this topic. Make
a tool, utensil, or object which could have been used by a person living in
colonial times.
- Thesis: Survival in colonial times demanded a strong
work ethic. Write a 2 page paper about this topic. Make a tool, utensil,
or object which could have been used by a person living in colonial times.
- Thesis: Cultural borrowing was evident in the foods
served in colonial times. Write a 2 page paper about this topic. Prepare
a food which was served in colonial times. The recipe must be approved in
advance by me.
- Thesis: Carpenters (or blacksmiths or …) used
specialized tools in colonial times. Write a 2 page paper about this
topic. Make a tool which could have been used by a carpenter or blacksmith in
colonial times.
- Thesis: Diversity was evident in the styles of
colonial architecture. Write a 2 page paper about this topic. Make a
series of drawings of different types of colonial homes.
- Make up your own thesis statement. Write a 2 page paper
based on a novel set in colonial times. This novel must be one which you are
reading for the first time, and must be approved in advance by me. This
project will qualify you for an A+.
You are not expected to write your entire essay about one
tool, food, utensil or object. You will be using information about your project
as supporting information for your thesis.
Bibliography is required for all project choices,
except the novel. You will be required to make a brief oral presentation.
