Chapter 8  Speech                                            

Your task is to prepare a speech from either the Federalist point of view or the Democratic-Republican point of view.  Your audience is undecided men who are looking to join one of the parties.  It is your job to convince them to join your party.  You must include in your speech the party’s stance on government, the economy and foreign relations.  You must have reasons to back up your stance.  You will have to hand in a draft of your speech but you cannot read it to the class.  You will be allowed to bring up note cards to refer to.  You will be graded on the content of your speech, how well you back up your position, your originality/creativity and how well you present your speech (i.e. making eye contact, dressing up, not fidgeting).

The following rubric will be used:

Information presented reflects the student’s                                     30pts

understanding of basic concepts or ideas about the topic.  Also the student talked about all three topics, government, the economy and foreign relations.

Students support their position convincingly                                    30pts

Eye Contact                                                                                           10pts

Voice: tone, volume, diction                                                                 10pts

Originality/Creativity                                                                            10pts

Audience: Aware of audience                                                               10pts
