La Bohème at the Metropolitan Operahouse

Who would ever have thought that there would be a waiting list of people wanting to buy tickets for the Metropolitan Opera House trip? There was a list of over 50 Tappan Zee High School students waiting for tickets. Only 46 lucky people got to go...a few on the waiting list were able to buy tickets from the few last minute cancellations. The night was that of November 14th and those who went all agreed that it was a spectacular performance.

It was neither a concert nor a sport event, but the Italian Club's annual Opera Night at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. This is the club's third Opera Night, and the event has become something students and their family and friends look forward to. This year the group saw Puccini's La Bohème. Following a pre-opera reception of Italian pastries, coffee, and soda, the group left by motorcoach for the Lincoln Center, arriving in enough time to visit the Met's gift shops before the performance began at 8:00pm. Overwhelmingly considered an enjoyable evening, requests were made for possible operas for next year's trip.

Other cultural excursions this year? The club hopes to continue the program it began last year.

After attending the opera Madama Butterfly, club members were able to participate in a trip to see Miss Saigon, a broadway play whose story is based on the opera Madama Butterfly by Puccini. After seeing La Bohème this fall, Italian club members hope to attend a Broadway performance of Rent, a modernization of the classic La Bohème.
