Our Trip:
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1-2 :
We took a jet through the night to Italy and touched down on Day 2 in Rome
where our bilingual EF Tour Director, Anna, assisted us with our transfer to
the Amalfi Coast.
Day 3 :
We sailed across the Bay of Naples to the Isle of Capri. We boarded a cruise
and took in the most scenic views of the island.
Day 4-5 :
Transfer to the Taormina region of Sicily. On Day 5, our local guide
introduced us to the sights of Taormina. We viewed the town’s cathedral and
the 15th-century Palazzo Corvaia. We also visited Taormina’s 3rd-century
Greek amphitheater. Later, we took an excursion to Mt. Etna, Europe’s highest
volcano.
Day 6 :
On day six we went to age-old Siracusa, where the famous philosopher Plato
once taught. On the island of Ortygia, we strolled through the 2,800-year-old
Old City. From the 6th to the 3rd centuries B.C., Siracusa was one of the
world’s most prosperous cities.
Day 7 :
Transfer to Palermo, which is situated along the Conca d’Oro at the foot of
Mount Pellegrino. Our guided tour of Sicily’s capital took us past the city’s
palazzi and the Parliament building. We also saw the cathedral in
Monreale before we boarded our overnight ferry for Naples.
Day 8 :
We arrived back on Italy’s mainland and transfered to Rome via the ruins of
Pompeii, buried in volcanic ash when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79. Later
that night we took a night tour of Rome, including the sites of the Spanish
Steps and the Trebe Fountain.
Day 9 :
We started Day 9 by visiting the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine,
commemorating the victory of its namesake over Maxentius, as a our local
guide showed us the Eternal City. We meandered through the remains of the
Forum Romanum. We then began our tour of Vatican City, where we visited the
Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. We then ventured out to see a few
other landmarks, like the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps.
Day 10 :
Departed for home.
