The Tappan Zee High
School English Honor Society was founded in 2003 to confer distinction for
high achievement in English language and literature at Tappan Zee High
School. The society seeks to promote interest in literature and the English
language, provide cultural stimulation in the form of lectures, debates, and
performances, and serve society by fostering literacy.
Members of the English Honor Society are juniors and seniors who have exhibited high standards of excellence in their freshmen and sophomore English classes, published a piece of writing on the school, state, or national level, and received the recommendation of at least one English teacher. English Honor Society Events 2003 -2004
Students must complete a total of six points of service to the field of English Language Arts to be considered eligible for EHS. Following acceptance, students must complete an additional 16 points of service per year to remain in active standing. Failure to complete service requirements will result in dismissal from the EHS. Service hours may be completed in any combination of the following:
English Honor Society Membership Requirements I. Grade Level RequirementsStudents may apply in spring of their sophomore or junior years only.II. Academic Requirements:Students seeking membership in the EHS must maintain a cumulative average of:92 in Regents English86 in Honors EnglishIII. Publishing Requirements: Students seeking membership in the EHS must have completed a minimum of one of the following during their high school career:

Conduct RequirementStudents applying for admission to the EHS must exemplify honorable conduct both inside and outside of the classroom as determined by the faculty members of the English Department. Failure to demonstrate honorable behavior may prohibit admission to the EHS or cause a member’s dismissal.VI English Department SponsorEvery applicant must have the endorsement of an English teacher to approve his/her candidacy.
